International Children’s Festival: Day 1

Today was fantastic! I went to a morning show and then did face painting.

The show was Farfalle:

Farfalle

“Farfalle” is Italian for “Butterfly.” Which is interesting, because it’s very similar to Hebrew’s “Parpar.” The choreographer asked the children if they knew where Italy is, and one child said that Italy is in France.

The show was amazing. It used both fantasy and technology – in ways that enhanced one another – I don’t have the right words to describe it. It was interactive – entrancing – I honestly feel honored that I had the chance to watch it.

Face painting was an experience. I’ve determined to apprentice – or at least research technique – because the next time I get assigned to face painting somewhere, I want to do the kids justice. We didn’t have great paint or brushes, but I’m still proud of a few of my paintings:

Longneck Dinosaur

Longneck Dinosaur

This boy asked for a dinosaur on his forehead – I was so relieved when he said “longneck”… I’m always braced for someone to say “brontosaurus”… I’m never going to let go of having to educate the world that brontosaurus never existed. For the record…. his neck is supposed to be the one that point upwards. The other one is his tail…

Please don’t laugh at my penguin! Okay, you can laugh. But it’s not that bad, right?! :-)

Today has only continued to be great – I set up a job interview for a New York site when I got home.

Tomorrow is another show, more Festival, possibly getting my car back from the shop, and the first Farmer’s Market of the season!
