Farmer’s Market trip

The Farmer’s Market was fantastic. I beat the rain by about 10 minutes. I got a lot of fruit- but no veggies. I was debating these zucchini from Schramm’s Farm- only 75 cents each- and one of the guys asked me if I wanted one…. when I explained that I have very little space for storage, he laughed and said I probably didn’t want a zucchini then. I asked him to let me take a photo so I could show how large it is, and he picked a watermelon for comparison:

I did get some blackberries from them- and seeing as I hadn’t had lunch, a number of them disappeared before I got to the JCC for my meeting! Their cauliflower was huge as well- and so tempting- but I knew I couldn’t eat it myself.

I spent a lot of time at Paul’s Orchard booth… I picked out pears quickly, but they had apples I’ve never tried. One of the men gave me tastes of the two I was debating:

Honey Gold- crisp/sweet/tangy

Honey Crisp- sweet/juicy

I chose the honey crisp after a long inner debate. I probably got more fruit than I can eat in time. I froze most of the blackberries that were left, and I’ll probably refrigerate the fruit if I can make room.

Guess what I found, Mum! And you thought I’d never find this at the Market…

In terms of things personally, I’m a bit stressed. I decided to tell the JCC about my upcoming interview at the museum. It seemed wrong to hire on and possibly leave almost immediately. They told me to come in to arrange things anyways, but then said it would be too much to train me and then have me leave, but to call them if it doesn’t work out. I can manage a couple weeks unemployed if needed- and I should hear from the Environmental Education Center soon- and hopefully the first museum part-time job (the one where I already spoke to them about the details) will come through quickly. I chose this, and I accept the consequences of my choices, but the stress is still normal. I’m not sure if the history museum is open on Labor Day- I hope so, because otherwise I don’t know what I’m going to do with such a long weekend (I think the botanic gardens may be open and need volunteers…). I’m spending Shabbat in Squirrel Hill, and I’m hoping I can relax enough the rest of the weekend to just read and hike or whatever.

Two long posts in one day- I apologize! Things keep changing so quickly.
