free day…

I took Tillie outside this morning… and there were these very cute mushrooms sprouting in my backyard. I argued with myself for awhile, that they weren’t in a good place to get a well-positioned photograph, but I gave in and got my camera.
Tillie was crazy excited to see me again after a whole minute of my disappearance. So of course she was all over me…. and saw the mushrooms…. and ate them.

I forgot to write about one very exciting thing yesterday (besides the caffeine high): we worked in a computer lab that had connected monitors. As in, one computer, but two monitors, so you could drag things to the second computer screen and have double the desktop space. I’ve actually never seen that before. I probably spent five minutes just moving the cursor back and forth between the two screens, enthralled. I wonder if you can do that with TWO computers- and have the programs from both- I’ll have to ask John. I mean, you can connect the hard drive of one computer to another and have two hard drives, so why not two computers? I’ll have to contain myself from asking at the Mac store this afternoon and wasting precious Genius Bar minutes.

I got the bloodwork done for the Hereditary Deafness study today… At some point, there’s supposed to be bloodwork from anyone I’m in a serious relationship with. I don’t know how I’m supposed to handle this when dating; is it better manners to give an early warning? I can see the first date: "By the way, how do you feel about blood samples? Not that I’m a vampire or anything…. but, oh hey, I was really into that in high school! So how do you feel about vampires?" Knowing my train of thought, that would probably happen, and I’d have a thoroughly spooked person sitting across the table from me. Of course, they might be into vampires too….. Or they could be opposed to DNA studies. I guess it’s a 50-50 chance.

I’m trying a new recipe tonight- Chickpea-Stuffed Shells- and since eventually I need to follow through on my promise to include recipes, that’ll probably be the start. Or possibly the honeydew granita, which I’m planning to make tonight in preparation for Shabbat. I can’t wait to see what the Farmer’s Markets are like in Pittsburgh, since the city is so into cultural/ethnic festivals, I could see the Farmer’s Markets being a similarly big event… and Pittsburgh is close to a lot of farmland that I love driving through- you go high enough to watch the fog boiling out from the valleys, the air is constantly scented with herbs, wet hay, even the occassional whiff of manure smells more authentic than the city/suburb air I breathe regularly. Funny combination I make, computer screens and country air.
